Repair Spurs with Fixings for Timber Posts

Repair Spurs for Timber Posts including necessary fixings

We offer a range of spurs that can either be used at the initial installation for longevity or be added for repairs if timber posts snaps at ground level. The idea of any spur is that they are fixed to the timber post above ground where it has rotted so that you get a good fixing and its dug into the ground and cemented/postfixed into place acting as a new anchor. All our spurs have pre-drilled holes for you to use.

BOLTS/SCREWS ARE INCLUDED. We know how annoying it is having to find suitable fixings. So we make it easier by supplying the necessary M10 coach screws for the Concrete Spurs or SITEMATE pozi high performance screws for the Fencemate Steel Spurs.

These can be easily secured into position using either ballast/cement or postmix also available on this website.

For fencing taller than 2m high we would recommend the larger 100×100 Concrete Spurs for extra strength due to the weight and wind resistance of taller fencing.

75×75 Concrete Spurs or Fencemate steel spurs are perfectly adequate for standard 6ft or shorter fencing. The metal spurs are the thinnest profile so would suit tighter spaces.

Post mix

Heidelberg/Hanson's postmix concrete is ideal for setting all types of posts. Simply pour down the hole and add water, it sets in 10 minutes. Used by the trade and DIYers. A relatively clean and easy solution compared to mixing ballast and cement.

The quantity required of course does depend on how big the hole is dug and its application. The bigger the hole then more postmix will be required. When fitting spurs to existing posts generally you would only dig down one side of the post and may only need 1 bag per spur. For all other types of post we would recommend 1.5 to 2 bags per full depth hole (550mm). The bags weigh approximately 20-22kg each.

Cement

Hanson/Heidelberg Muticem Cement 25kg Plastic bags

Formulated for use as mortar, concrete, render or screed. These bags can be stored outside due to the plastic packaging.

Suggested mixes:

Concrete (for post fitting) - 1 x cement and 4 x ballast (sand/20mm aggregates)

Mortar - 1 x cement and 4 x building sand

Render - 1 x cement and 5 x rendering/plastering sand

Screed - 1 x cement and 3.5 coarse concreting sand

Ballast 20mm bags

Hanson/Heidelberg 20mm Ballast Trade bags

All in one sand and gravel for producing concrete. Cement sold separately. For post installation the advised ratio of ballast to cement (sold separately) is 4 ballast to 1 cement.

Bags are approximately 20-22Kg.

What is the difference between ballast/cement and postfix? Postfix is already mixed for convenience and only the addition of water is required. However Postfix is more expensive than mixing your own ballast/cement. For larger projects ballast/cement will work out much cheaper but it is more labour intensive and will result in more mess!

Ready mix postfix also available separately
